DESCRIPTION: NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK. THE SEAT OF GOVERNMENT FOR THE CHEROKEE NATION FROM 1869 UNTIL 1907. AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE ITALIANATE STYLE OF ARCHITECTURE, THE BUILDING OCCUPIES AN ENTIRE CITY BLOCK IN DOWNTOWN TAHLEQUAH. FROM THIS BUILDING, THE CHEROKEE NATIONAL COUNCIL GOVERNED A NATION UNTIL IT WAS ABOLISHED IN 1907. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 10/15/66.
