DESCRIPTION: THE SEVERS HOTEL, CONSTRUCTED IN 1912, IS A LOCALLY SIGNIFICANT EXAMPLE OF THE SULLIVANESQUE STYLE SKYSCRAPER AND THE FOCAL POINT OF THE DOWNTOWN COMMERCIAL DISTRICT. THIS TEN STORY WITH BASEMENT BUILDING IS CLAD IN BRICK AND HAS ELABORATE TERRA COTTA ACCENTS. DESIGNED BY MARINER AND LA BEAUME OF ST. LOUIS, THE BUILDING HAS A REINFORCED CONCRETE FOUNDATION, COLUMNS, BEAMS, AND SLABS. THE EXTERIOR WALLS ARE 12 INCHES THICK AND COMPOSED OF THREE LAYERS OF DARK RED BRICK. THE CORNICE OF THE BUILDING IS DECORATIVE METAL FOUR FEET HIGH WITH AN OVER-HANG OF THREE FEET. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 9/12/1982.
